However, there are several ways to reach New Hampshire, depending on where your journey begins.
Flying to New Hampshire
Manchester-Boston Regional Airport is a convenient option for travellers arriving on domestic flights.
For international visitors, Boston Logan International Airport in neighbouring Massachusetts is another practical choice.
From Boston, you can reach southern New Hampshire by car in approximately one to two hours, depending on your destination and traffic conditions.
If you are planning to explore the White Mountains or the Lakes Region, allow additional travelling time.
Travelling by Car
Driving gives you the freedom to discover New Hampshire at your own pace.
Interstate 93 connects southern New Hampshire with the White Mountains, while Interstate 95 provides access to the state’s short Atlantic coastline.
For a particularly memorable journey, drive along the Kancamagus Highway between Lincoln and Conway. This scenic mountain road is especially beautiful during autumn.
Remember that winter weather can affect road conditions, particularly in mountainous areas.
Public Transportation
You can reach several New Hampshire destinations by bus from Boston and other regional transport hubs.
Amtrak’s Downeaster train also serves destinations along New Hampshire’s southeastern corridor, including Exeter, Durham and Dover.
However, public transportation is more limited in rural areas, and many natural attractions are difficult to reach without a car.
Exploring New Hampshire
If you want to visit several regions, I recommend renting a car and planning a route that combines the White Mountains, Lake Winnipesaukee and Portsmouth.
Allow at least four or five days if you want to explore these areas without rushing.
For a shorter visit, choose one region and enjoy it properly. New Hampshire is a wonderful place for scenic drives, spontaneous stops and discovering charming towns along the way.
