From mountain adventures to lakeside relaxation, discover some of New Hampshire’s most memorable experiences.
New Hampshire may be relatively small, but there is plenty to discover. Whether you enjoy outdoor adventures, historic towns or simply exploring beautiful scenery, you will find activities to fill several days of your holiday.
Here are some experiences I would include when planning a trip.
Explore the White Mountains
White Mountain National Forest is a wonderful destination for hiking, scenic drives and enjoying the outdoors.
One of the most popular routes is the Kancamagus Highway, a scenic road connecting Lincoln and Conway. Along the way, you will find mountain views, forest trails and places to stop for photographs.
For a more adventurous experience, consider visiting Mount Washington, where you can reach the summit by hiking, driving the Mount Washington Auto Road or taking the historic cog railway.
Spend a Day at Lake Winnipesaukee
Lake Winnipesaukee is a wonderful place to enjoy New Hampshire’s lake region.
Visit towns such as Meredith and Wolfeboro, take a boat trip or simply relax beside the water.
During summer, the lake is especially popular for swimming, kayaking and boating.
Discover Portsmouth
If you enjoy historic architecture, independent shops and good food, make time for Portsmouth.
The city’s waterfront, historic buildings and lively downtown area make it a pleasant destination for exploring on foot.
Visit Strawbery Banke Museum to discover more about the area’s history.
Enjoy New Hampshire’s Changing Seasons
Autumn is particularly special, with colourful forests attracting visitors from across the country.
Winter offers skiing and snowboarding in the mountains, while summer is ideal for hiking, cycling and exploring the lakes.
If you have a few extra days, combine the White Mountains with the Lakes Region and Portsmouth. You will experience three very different sides of New Hampshire in a single trip.
